Banjo Beth, The Chicago Assassin

When Beth and I started dating in 2003, she filled me in on an elaborate plan she had concocted while living in Michigan:

(1) Move to Chicago;
(2) Purchase and learn how to play banjo;
(3) Purchase and learn how to ride motorcycle;
(4) Ride around on motorcycle while playing Foggy Mountain Breakdown on banjo(http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=icMTVV5Lwaw);
(5) Earn the nickname "Banjo Beth, The Chicago Assassin."

Beth moved to Chicago, but never bought her banjo or bike. Then, last month, the Wife took up banjo lessons at Flatts & Sharpe (http://flattsandsharpe.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=12&Itemid=29).

Unfortunately, the old Kay banjo we had laying around the house was in crappy shape. So, this past weekend, the Burkharts took the full hillbilly plunge and bought this: http://www.goldtone.com/products/details/w/instrument/42/CC-100R-Cripple-Creek.

Now, Beth practices playing Cripple Creek for an hour each day (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B4sqishGuYw). That's right, a full hour each day of Cripple Creek. Although it's rough listening to anyone learning an instrument, she sounds like she's been playing a few months, when it's only been 3 weeks. Soon, the Burkhart Family Good Time Jug Band will be in full swing.

  1. I know I'm not really part of the Good Time Family, but I do play a mean jug if you're looking for a person that can do that type of thing.
